I, like many out there, always thought that Norton Anti Virus was the best computer security product available. Unfortunately for me, this turned out to be a big fat lie. I used Norton for several months on my computer. It ran regular scans and virus database updates and consistently returned clean scan results.

At one point my computer started running quite slow and I suspected that something may be wrong. I then downloaded a couple of free Malware removers, MalwareBytes and SuperAnti Spyware, which found some spyware and cookies on my system, but these were not the types of malware that would cause the freeze ups and Internet surfing problems that I was experiencing.

So I then decided to run the free Kaspersky scan to see what it would find, and it detected one Trojan on my computer. Not intending to pay for another virus software as I had with the useless Norton virus program, I did some research and downloaded the free home version of Avast.

Within 2 hours, Avast had found 4 Trojans on my computer, isolated them to the virus chest and my computer performance instantly improved.

I was glad that my computer had not been completely destroyed by these viruses, as had happened in the past. In my experience, Norton was  a useless software, that neither detected properly the infections on my system and therefore cannot provide any type of piece of mind for the security of my system. And considering that their variety of products cost over $40 each I found it quite upsetting.

Another reason that Norton is a bad choice is that it is very heavy on system resources and is a high program. Avast runs smoothly in the background and is much lighter on the system.

Another great perk with the Avast home free edition is that it has excellent real time protection that is always on guard when surfing the net, and will not allow viruses to download to your computer, it blocks them and sets of alarms when malware is detected on a website you may visit.

So, forget Norton and try Avast instead, it truly is the best free anti virus software available today!
